HighCharts - Bar Charts

Bar charts are essentially column charts rotated 90 degrees, using horizontal bars instead of vertical columns. They serve the same purpose: comparing values across discrete categories.

Bar charts are often preferred over column charts when:

  • Category labels are long (horizontal layout provides more space).
  • There are many categories to display.
  • You want to emphasize ranking or comparison along the horizontal axis.

Key variations mirror those of column charts:

Sr. No.Chart Type / Feature Description
1Basic Bar: Standard horizontal bars for comparing category values.
2Stacked Bar: Segments within each horizontal bar represent parts of a whole.
3Percentage Stacked Bar: Each bar totals 100%, showing relative proportions across categories.
4Bar with Negative Values: Bars extend to the left of the zero line for negative values.
5Grouped Bar: Comparing sub-groups within each main category using clustered bars.
6Drilldown: Enabling interactive exploration by clicking a bar.

The configuration options are very similar to column charts, primarily differing in the orientation.
