Drupal - Create Blog

In this chapter, we will learn how to create blog posts in Drupal. Drupal’s core includes a ‘Blog’ module that provides a dedicated ‘Blog post’ content type. Blog posts can be made public or private, depending on permissions and publishing status.

Follow these steps to enable the Blog module and create blog posts:

Navigate to ‘Manage’ in the administration toolbar, then go to ‘Extend’ (usually found at /admin/modules).

In the list of modules, find ‘Blog’ (under the ‘Core’ package). Check the box next to it.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click ‘Install’.

Once the Blog module is enabled, go to ‘Manage’ in the administration toolbar, then click on ‘Content’ (usually at /admin/content).

Click the ‘Add content’ button.

You will see a list of available content types. Click on ‘Blog post’.

You will be presented with a form to create your blog post. Key fields include:

  • Title: Enter the title of your blog post. This is a required field.
  • Body: Write the main content of your blog post here. Drupal uses a WYSIWYG editor (like CKEditor 5) which allows you to format text, add links, embed media, etc.
  • Tags: (If available and configured) Add relevant keywords or tags to categorize your blog post. This typically uses a taxonomy vocabulary.
  • Publishing options: On the right sidebar (or at the bottom), you’ll find options like:
    • Published: Check this to make the blog post live on your site. Uncheck it to save it as a draft.
    • Promoted to front page: Check this if you want the blog post to appear on the homepage (if your theme and views are configured to show promoted content).
    • Sticky at top of lists: Check this to keep this blog post at the top of blog listings.

After filling in all the necessary details, click the ‘Save’ button at the bottom of the form.

Your blog post will be created and, if published, will be visible on your website. You will typically be redirected to view the newly created post.

Note: The availability and labeling of fields like ‘Tags’ can vary based on your site’s specific configuration of the ‘Blog post’ content type. You can customize content types under ‘Manage’ > ‘Structure’ > ‘Content types’.
