Practical Application: Frosted Glass Card
Section titled “Practical Application: Frosted Glass Card”Let’s combine several effects to build a popular “frosted glass” UI component. This example uses backdrop-blur to create the frosted effect, box-shadow for depth, and opacity on the background color to let the background image show through. We’ll also add a smooth transition for a hover effect.

<!-- This is a custom utility for text-shadow, you would add this via a plugin --> <style type="text/tailwindcss"> @layer utilities { .text-shadow { text-shadow: 0 2px 4px rgb(0 0 0 / 0.5); } .text-shadow-sm { text-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgb(0 0 0 / 0.5); } } </style>
</body></html>Best Practices and Performance
Section titled “Best Practices and Performance”- Animate with Transitions: Always pair effects on interactive elements (like
:hoveror:focus) withtransitionutilities (transition-all,duration-300,ease-in-out) to ensure smooth visual changes. This greatly improves user experience. - Performance Costs: Be mindful that complex effects, especially
blur,backdrop-filter, and largebox-shadows, can be computationally expensive for the browser to render. Use them judiciously and test performance on lower-powered devices. - Accessibility: When using
opacity, ensure that text and important UI elements remain legible with sufficient contrast against their background. Anopacityvalue that is too low can make content inaccessible.
