SEO - Optimizing Meta Tags and Title Tags
Section titled “SEO - Optimizing Meta Tags and Title Tags”While many types of meta tags exist, two remain particularly relevant for SEO, alongside the crucial HTML Title tag:
- Title Tag (
) - Meta Description Tag (<meta name="description">)
- Robots Meta Tag ()
The Title Tag is not technically a meta tag, but it’s often discussed alongside them. It’s a critical ranking factor and heavily influences click-through rates (CTR) as it appears as the main headline in search results.
The Meta Description Tag doesn’t directly impact rankings, but it’s vital for CTR. Search engines often use it to generate the descriptive snippet shown below the title in search results. A compelling description encourages users to click.
The Meta Keywords Tag () was once important but is now ignored by Google and most major search engines due to past abuse (keyword stuffing). Including it generally offers no SEO benefit and is not recommended.
The Robots Meta Tag instructs search engine crawlers on how they can crawl or index parts of your website.
