Electron - Resources

As you continue your journey with Electron, here are some valuable resources to aid your learning and development:

The primary and most authoritative resource is the official Electron documentation: https://www.electronjs.org/docs/latest. It covers all APIs, guides, and tutorials, and is regularly updated.

  • Electron Quick Start: A minimal Electron application provided by the official team, perfect for getting a basic project running: https://github.com/electron/electron-quick-start
  • Electron Forge: A complete tool for building, packaging, and distributing Electron applications. It includes templates and simplifies the development lifecycle: https://www.electronforge.io/
  • Electron Builder: A powerful solution for packaging and building a ready-for-distribution Electron app for macOS, Windows, and Linux: https://www.electron.build/
  • Electron Fiddle: An application for experimenting with Electron. You can write, run, and package small Electron experiments. It’s excellent for testing out APIs or creating shareable examples: https://www.electronjs.org/fiddle
  • DevTron (Archived but historically useful): While DevTron itself is no longer actively maintained, understanding the kinds of tools that aid in debugging (like inspecting IPC, linting, etc.) is valuable. Modern Chrome DevTools offer many similar capabilities.

Studying open-source Electron applications can provide great insights into how real-world apps are built. Some notable examples include Visual Studio Code, Slack (desktop), and many others. Look for their repositories on GitHub.

Remember that the Electron ecosystem is constantly evolving. Always try to refer to the latest official documentation and recently published materials for the most current best practices.
